The Doing Away of Sin

122 ( 82 | 40 )

God’s presence is problematic for sinners. It is because He is holy that He is worthy of all our love and worship. But at the same time His very holiness burns against everything that is polluted and defiled by sin and death. Under the old covenant it is clear that almost everything used in worship, and every worshipper, needed to be purified by the blood of slain animals.
The deadly nature of sin is clear if blood must be shed for its forgiveness. But if all this bloodletting is necessary to cleanse a worship system that was only a copy of the true sanctuary, what sacrifice could ever be sufficient to deal with sin in heaven itself before the unfiltered presence of God? Only the once for all self-sacrifice of Christ Himself could ever do away with sin forever. What joy and freedom comes to those who know that He has set them free from their sins - not by making light of them or by misplacing them but by bearing them –removing them from us by taking them upon Himself!
