Recognising The Spirit Of Truth

The uniqueness and once-for-all reality of Jesus Christ is the burden of the Spirit’s testimony. The denial of the reality of the incarnation- either by suggesting that the Christ only seemed to take on flesh, or by suggesting as many new age proponents teach today, that Jesus was one of many incarnations of the ‘Christ Spirit’ is in fact the activity of the spirit of Antichrist.

Those who treat lightly the apostolic witness and claim to have received from the Spirit a deeper revelation will always have the world’s ear! The fact that the children of God who are from God continue in the truth demonstrates that they have overcome the spirit of falsehood. John writes to alert believers and not to alarm them. The assurance is that God’s true children cannot be sucked in by the lie, not because of themselves they are beyond being deceived but because the One who is in them is greater than the one who is in the world.
