There are two types of suffering. One is brought on by our sins to bring about repentance. The other is not for what has been done personally but is what we must endure with the Lord until his purpose is accomplished. There is a spiritual captivity. The captivity is designed to bring the people back to the knowledge of God. God is faithful.
