Trusting in a God Who Reveals Secrets

1,030

Ravi Zacharias illustrated the importance of being a man or woman of 'conviction' this way: A man was seated next to a beautiful woman on a plane. The man said to her: 'I find you extremely attractive. I will give you a million dollars if you will spend the night with me.' The woman thought for a while, and eventually consented. After some time, the man said, 'There's something I have to tell you. I can't really give you a million dollars. I don't have that kind of money. Would you do it for $10?' The woman was highly offended. 'What sort of woman do you think I am?' The man replied, 'We've already established what sort of woman you are. We are just haggling over the price.' George Washington was quoted as having said: 'Few men have the virtue to withstand the highest bidder.' Daniel was such a man.

In this chapter we see Daniel interpreting a dream of Nebuchednezzar, and we note: the foolishness of unrestrained anger (citing the example of a judge who resigned after biting off a defendant's nose) the blessing of living in a land ruled by law, as opposed to a land ruled by a tyrant; Daniel's wisdom, grace, faith and courage. Daniel's faith and courage is illustrated here by the faith of Scott and Janet Willis, who lost 6 of their 9 children when road debris punctured the gas tank of their van, but were enabled to say: 'God has demonstrated His love to us and our family. There is no question in our mind that God is good, and we praise Him in all things.'
