Living Without Illusions

Only those who begin with an illusion end out being disillusioned. The 'Teacher' in Ecclesiastes does a great service by showing the futility of trying to find purpose and meaning in a fallen world. He gives us a true assessment of the world apart from God's redeeming love and in doing so gives us an insight into the great despair of the world.
However, the Teacher is not simply exposing the diversions of the world. He is unmasking the false hopes that we, as God's people, can easily be sucked into. His great quest at trying to discover some source of purpose in life might help us to see that we too are running after the same illusions - 'a chasing after wind'. It may be good to be 'dis-illusioned' by our worldly wise Teacher so that we can begin to live, without illusions, with a wisdom from God that is more than we can fully grasp and yet well able to grasp us and take us into its great and glorious purpose.
