God's Trojan Horse
Series Series in Jeremiah (2004-2007)
Aim: To faithfully bear Christ's word everywhere we go.
Doctrine: God's word accompanies His people—even when they are being chastised. The Lord goes with His covenant community and delivers (through them) messages of redemption and damnation.
Exegesis: The bases on which the church conveys the word of God: through prophetic (and apostolic) authority (vv. 59-60); through divine inspiration (and sovereignty) (vv. 61-62); through Christ's sure (and total) victory (vv. 63-64).
Further application: The difference God's word is to make in us: we are to be encouraged by it—even in dark times; and we are to faithfully preach Christ—even when opposed.
Key verse: v. 61 ''And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, 'When you arrive in Babylon and see it, and read all these words...'''
