The Escalation of Opposition - The Apostles Before the Sanhedrin
Series Acts Series
Peter's healing of the lame man and subsequent sermon were sufficient to get the attention of the Jewish authorities and provoke them to have John and him arrested and interrogated. Now weeks had passed and, despite being warned, the apostles were openly continuing their witness to Christ on the temple grounds. That witness was reaching more and more people well beyond the bounds of Jerusalem, and Israel's rulers were realizing that they needed to crush this movement before it gained any more momentum or it would be too late. This time they arrested all of the apostles, but God would soon bear witness - by divine intervention and Gamaliel's insight - that opposing Him and His work was futile; these oppponents would find themselves fighting, not against the followers of a false messiah, but against God Himself.
