THIS SERIES IS NOW COMPLETE. The Book of Amos is the earliest of the prophetic writings to be preserved as a book. Amos was a prophet during the reign of Jeroboam II (753 BCE to 793 BCE). Israel and Judah were peaking in prosperity. The theme that runs through Amos is one of contrast between the rich and the poor-the weak and the powerful. Amos was deeply troubled by the social injustice apparent in the way in which political and religious leaders attempted to justify their cruelty.
