Flesh - No Help at All

Always recognize that some disciples are not true disciples of Christ (vv. 60, 61, 66).
A. That is, some Christians are not true Christians. Notice the text: “many of HIS disciples” (v. 60); “HIS disciples were grumbling” (v. 61); “many of HIS disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.” (v. 66) There is also Judas (vv. 64, 71) who was one of the twelve disciples of Christ.
They were disciples; they followed him, listened to him — they were considered to be his disciples. People at that time would have said that they were his disciples. Jesus knew that “HIS disciples” were grumbling about what He said (v. 61). They were evidently His disciples. It is probable that they were even baptized (4:1, “…Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples)…”)!
They no doubt enjoyed the company of Jesus and His disciples; they marveled at his miracles and embraced to a certain extent Jesus’ teaching. After all they were HIS disciples.
Yet, they were not true disciples who truly believed (v. 64)! How can that be?
