Confidence Because of Christ

70

Some might say, if God is sovereign, why doesn't he just keep bad things from happening in the first place? Instead of working all things out for good, why not just keep things always good? Instead of bring good from cancer, why doesn't God just keep you from getting cancer? How can it be possible that God brings about good when a little child suffers from cancer or some other horrific disease? What is the good that God brings when a child is born with a condition that he will suffer from all his life?
It is possible that some of you have faced these and similar questions either directly or indirectly. And since these exact questions are not found in Scripture, we can't simply turn to a single passage of Scripture for an answer to these questions. But certainly these types of questions are given answer in Scripture.
God is under no obligation to man to explain all that He does. His word and truth do not depend upon our experience.
But I don't think this is the only answer that we are given. God doesn't just tell us to shut-up and stop asking questions. Rather God has given us the greatest answer in the gift of His Son. How can God work all things for good? The answer is found in Christ and in His love. The answer is again a series of questions? If God is for you, who can be against you? Who can separate you from the love of Christ?
God has given us many wonderful promises. The confidence that we have that these promises are true is found in Christ. Find your confidence in Christ.
We will note verses 31-39 in two parts.

  1. If God is for you, who can be against you?, v. 31-34
  2. Who can separate you from the love of Christ?, v. 35-39
