The law was to point people to Jesus. Fasting can be giving up food or the things that take up time our time to devote the free to prayer to the Lord. In addition to God’s law, people invent rules. We must not forget who Jesus is. We are not to try and fit what God is doing and put it into our old ways of doing religion. There are three kinds of law in the old covenant. First is the moral law, lying, murder, etc. Second, is civil law. The third is ceremonial law. Only the moral law endured into the new testament. There was also a fourth law that came from people who were trying to follow God’s law. Instead, they were putting man's rules ahead of God’s law. Jesus is angered at evil, false religion.
