GOD's Judgment Upon The Gentile Nations

108

The theme of Joel is “the day of the LORD.”

Chapter 1 concerns the terrible locust plagues, used by the prophet Joel as an illustration of the future day of the LORD.

Chapter 2 deals with some of the major events of the day of the LORD, such as the attack of the northern invaders, God's chastening of the Jews, the repentance of the Jewish remnant, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Chapter 3 develops in detail the judgement theme, introduced in 2:30, 31 (cf. 3:15, 16).

  1. THE TIME OF THE JUDGEMENT.
    Zech. 14:1-4; II Thess. 1:5-10; Rev. 16:13-16; 19:11-21; Ezekiel 20:33-44.

  2. THE PLACE OF THE JUDGEMENT.
    Zechariah 14:2-3; Jeremiah 25:31.

  3. THE BASIS FOR THE JUDGEMENT.
    Isaiah 10:5-6.

  4. THE GATHERING OF THE NATIONS TO JUDGEMENT.
    Daniel 2:33.

  5. THE RESULTS OF THE JUDGEMENT.
Zechariah 14:16 says, “And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.”
