Jesus and The Trinity - Part 1

549

The writer of the Epistle of the Hebrews opens with a majestic declaration of the foundational doctrine of Christianity—Jesus is the eternal Son of God, the 2nd person of the Holy Trinity.

Jesus identifies this foundational truth as the fulfillment of Psalm 118:22-23, “The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This is the LORD’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes.” (cf. Matt. 21:42; Mk. 12:10; Lk. 20:17; Acts4:11; Ephesians 2:20; 1st Peter 2:6-7)

The Jewish leaders rejection of Jesus as the Messiah was not a studied scriptural matter, but a theological objection that to recognize Jesus’ claim of divinity was to accept polytheism, i.e. more than one God.

There can be no intellectually honest question that Jesus claims to be the Son of God, the unique God-man.

However, the doctrine of the Trinity as scripturally revealed does not teach more than one God, but one God in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Remember that in recognizing our individual and discrete personhood, we are one person in body, soul, and spirit.

The chief cornerstone of Christianity is that Jesus is the 2nd person of the Holy Trinity.
