Spiritual Health
Series Series in Jeremiah (2014-2017)
39
Aim: To be perfectly well by virtue of our union with Jesus.
Doctrine: Soul-wellness requires our being joined to Christ. Unrepented-of sin poisons the heart; Jesus is God's great physician.
Exegesis: The results of refusing God's medicine: barrenness (v. 13), despair (v. 14), discouragement (v. 15), fear (v. 16), danger (v. 17), disappointment (vv. 18-19), waste (v. 20), weeping (v. 21), and wonder (v. 22).
Further application: The saints' hope in sick times: let us know that God heals grieving hearts and revives His humbled church.
Key verse: v. 22 ''Is there no balm in Gilead, is there no physician there? Why then is there no recovery for the health of the daughter of my people?''
