In the midst of great personal distress, Paul received comfort from God. As Paul retreated to Macedonia in search of peace of mind as well as Titus, he instead found conflicts without and fears within. When everything looked most bleak, God comforted Paul's heart with the arrival of Titus. This comfort at root came from Titus' report that the Corinthians had repented and desired to restore their relationship with Paul.
