Introduction

…set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Pet. 1:13)

I. The Meaning of the LORD Being Our Portion

...the LORD said to Aaron, “You shall have no inheritance in their land, neither shall you have any portion among them. I am your portion and your inheritance among the people of Israel.” (Deut. 18:20)

Psalm 16:5 w/ Psalm 17:14

Having the LORD as our portion is to truly want and desire Him more than anything else.

II. The Implications of the LORD Being Our Portion

A. Pleading the Promises…becomes the way of life (57-58)

B. Pleasing the Lord…becomes primary (59-60)

C. Persevering in Trial…becomes possible (61)

D. Praising in the Night…becomes a regular activity (62)

E. Participating with His People…becomes attractive (63)

F. Praising the Lord…becomes our pastime (64)

Conclusion

“Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” (Gen. 15:1)

The LORD is my portion; I promise to keep faith in Christ. I entreat Your favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to Your promise. When I think on my ways, I turn to Your Son; I hasten and do not delay to show my love for Christ. Though the cords of the wicked ensnare me, I do not forget the Righteous One. At midnight I rise to praise You, because of Your Son. I am a companion of all who fear You, of those who love Jesus Christ. The earth, O LORD, is full of Your steadfast love; teach me more about Jesus!
