Intro to the Ten Commandments
Series Ten Commandments
I. Why Should We Have a Series Like This?
Because we live in an age of moral Relativism.
Because the Ten Commandments help to reveal the moral
character of God Himself.Because when God’s truth is rejected by a society, moral
reprobation is the natural result Romans 1:18-32
We are not saying America should become a Theocracy.
II. The Importance of the Law in Understanding Salvation
The sinner must know who God is.
Gen. 1:1, Heb. 11:6The sinner must know who he is (one who has broken God's law).
Romans 3:20 -- Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight,
for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
James 2:20 -- For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point,
he is guilty of all.
3. The sinner must know the way of salvation.
Salvation is by the passive and active obedience of Christ
If Christ did not render active obedience to the law in His life:
We must all be lost
- or God changed the rules
or the Roman Catholic (and Pelagian) views of
salvation by our works must be correct
Rom 5:18-19 -- Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all
men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made
sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
Rom 10:4 -- For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth.
Romans 3:28 -- Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from
the deeds of the law.
