1. The Theological (doctrinal) test - "You know that Jesus is God in the flesh."
2. The Love (social) test - "You love one-another."
3. The Moral (righteous) test - "If you keep My commandments."

I. The Claim of Certainty Contrasted (v. 3)
A. The knowledge of God from leaders of John's day.
B. The knowledge of God from John's understanding.

II. The Certainty of Assurance of Salvation (vv. 3b-4)
A. Positively -- "Keeping the commandments."
B. Negatively -- "Not keeping the commandments."
