Part of understanding the Scripture is studying the cultural conditions of the writers of the Bible. It is also important to understand the cultural conditioning we have as we read the Scriptures. Perhaps the most challenging aspect regarding culture is understanding the difference between a Biblical principle and a local custom. A principle is binding, a custom is an outworking of the principle in a specific locale and may not be universal.
