The Lord of Life Gives Life

Gennesaret was a small but extremely fertile region located on the northwest side of the Sea of Galilee. Just about anything could grow there. But its produce failed to give health to those who lived there. Apparently something more was needed. Think about what Jesus had just done: he fed 5000 men with only a few small loaves and fish. Consider also the compassion of the people of this area. As soon as they recognized Jesus, they went out to bring the sick to him. It’s important to keep in mind that it was sick people who were brought to Jesus. Their sickness was a consequence of sin (though not necessarily their own). They believed that they could be healed by touching the tassels of Jesus’ robe. Such was their faith. Jesus did not disappoint them. He healed their sicknesses as evidence that he was about to conquer their sin.
