Is talk of transforming culture and taking it captive for Christ all just smoke and mirrors? Undoubtedly, it is the case that some transformationalist rhetoric is a little overheated; however, does that mean it is always foolish for transformationalists to tout a few positive examples of cultural transformers at work in order to spur the saints on to take up the dominion mandate for the glory of Christ? We certainly hope that is not the case. Besides, it seems to us that the real issue here is not bluster, its theology. Dr. Trueman and a host of others in the Reformed camp today assume that the church's efforts to transform culture in this age are doomed to fail and therefore any bold talk about making a big impact for Christ is considered hot air at best and a sign of a flawed eschatology at worst. In this episode, we jump in where angels fear to tread and talk a little transformationalism by engaging Dr. Trueman's provocative remarks, tracing out the fault lines of the debate it generated, and then, provide some of our own analysis as well.
