The Importance of the Doctrine of the Ascension

The Apostles Creed says: On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I. The Ascension Itself as related in the Scriptures

A.  The Account as given in Luke

II. Four Positive Truths that Flow from Christ's Ascension

A.  Christ's Ascension assures us He will return as he ascended -- bodily.

B.  Christ's Ascension means he is currently ruling and reigning as king of Kings and Lord of Lords.

    1. He has a permanent place in heaven.
    2.  His work of redemption is complete.
    3.  He is seated in the place of highest honor in the entire universe.
        Ephesians 1:19-23

C.  Christ's Ascension is a great blessing and includes a great mystery.  

    1.  When He ascended into heaven, he took His glorified humanity with Him.
    2.  It is better for us that He has gone away – than when He was here – John 16:7.

D.  Christ's Ascension established Him as our “Mediator”.
