Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit

Jesus pronounces that the poor in spirit are blessed. He refers to those who readily acknowledge themselves to be spiritually bankrupt. If our standing before God is one of debt, then the poor in spirit admit that they have nothing with which to pay that debt. It is a confession, not just that we are sinners, but sinners unable to do anything to contribute to our own deliverance.
