Mt. Moriah, The Climb to Faithfulness series 2 Genesis 22:1-18 Mountains are mentioned almost 570 times in the Bible. Much of the land where people lived in the Bible was hilly and mountainous. As such, it is VERY difficult to determine exactly how many mountains there were. In this series Mountains of the Bible. I will use 12 Mountains of the Bible. There are times when God calls on us to do things that we simply don't understand. If this is you, if you seem to be going through confusing situations and various kinds of tests, this story can offer some insight into what is going on in your life, what you can do about it, and what you can expect. 3 Truths to help You Climb Your Mountain 1. There will be tests in life, and they all mean something. v.1-142. There comes a time when obedient action is the only meaningful Gauge of your faith. 3. Each test leads you to the next level of life in Christ. v.16-18 This is the first time the word "love" (Genesis 22:2)appears in the Bible, and it's connected to the concept of sacrifice. The story of Abraham and Isaac foreshadows the sacrificial death of Jesus. Like Isaac, Jesus was the only son of his Father. Like Isaac, he would carry on his back the wood that would become an instrument of death.Like Isaac, he would quietly submit to the will of his Father.
God didn't require Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, but he did use the story to foreshadow what would happen some two thousand years later when Jesus' death on the cross would become a sacrificial act of love. We need forgiveness and mercy and Grace. In him, you are forgiven, washed clean, made new. That's what his death has accomplished. His grace is free. All you have to do is ask.
