David's Psalm of Repentance
Series Psalm series
489
There is, I suspect, something in all of us that likes to hear about the sins of others. There is a certain attraction to gossip magazines, TV exposes, check-out stand tabloids and tell-all biographies that reveal drunken rampages, infidelities, and other indiscretions of public figures. But when the Lord chose to record for us the tragic transgressions of King David in the incident with Bathsheba, it was surely not to cater to our appetite for scandalous revelations, but rather to teach us some valuable lessons---particularly, to warn us of the potentiality of tragic falls. Psalm 51 was written after David was confronted by God's prophet Nathan.
This sermon seems to have the blessing of God's Spirit upon it.
