I. The fifth and sixth trumpets (Revelation 9.13-21)
A. The background to the fifth, sixth and seventh trumpets (Revelation 8.13).
B. The first woe (Revelation 9.1-2; Revelation 9.3-5). A dead and formal religion cannot bring the joy unspeakable and full of glory.
C. The second woe (Revelation 9.6; 9.13-15; 9.16-18).
II. The Roman Church
A. The legacy of Pope Gregory the Great (died A.D. 604) Gregory I, was 'one of the chief architects of the papal system'.
B. The form of godliness (2 Timothy 3.1-5)
(i) The pagan 'Mother of God' terminology against Luke 1.46-49.
(ii) The Lord's Supper was being reshaped (1 Corinthians 11.23-26)
(iii) The pagan doctrine of Purgatory promoted (2 Corinthians 6.2)
C. Roman expansionism. Synods at Whitby.
III. Islam
A. Mohammed claimed that Gabriel had called him to be the prophet of Allah. In 10 years Islam had 50,000 followers. (Revelation ii. 5).
B. The errors of Islam. Islam and Christianity are irreconcilable in four main areas. (i) Authority. (ii) Trinity (Matthew 28.19-20). (iii) Atonement (Romans 4.25). (iv)Salvation (Romans 4.1-8)
