Considering Your Heavens

221

It is the great duty of man, the creature, to consider and exalt the majesty and glory of God, the Creator. In this psalm, David stands in awe of the glory of God displayed in the night sky. With references to the immensity of the stars, their great distance from us, the order of the heavens, and the power and number of the heavenly bodies, this message attempts to glorify God, along with the psalmist, by exulting in the wonder of His creative power. We should train ourselves, as William Blake put it, to 'see a world in a grain of sand, and heaven in a wild flower."
