Honest Words

Jesus shows yet another way in which Jewish tradition had undermined the spirit of the Law. He condemns here all frivolous swearing and emphasizes the need for His disciples to say what they mean and mean what they say. Truth and honesty are to characterize our words always, making swearing or oath-taking unnecessary in our day-to-day speech.
