The Sower and the Soils
Series Matthew 13 Series
212
Jesus did not tell parables to simplify his message and make it more understandable for the multitude. No, he told parables to help his authentic disciples unravel the mysteries of the kingdom. In the parable of the Sower and the Soils, Jesus describes four recipients of the word of the kingdom: the hard path (the one who does not receive the word at all); the rocky soil (the false or superficial professor); the thorns (the one who loves the world more than Christ); and the good soil (the fruitful believer). We must ask what kind of soil we are. This parable also presents the astounding mercy of God who continues promiscuously to broadcast the seed of the word even to those whom he knows will reject it.
