Our Necessary Response to the Great Transformation:
Devote Yourselves To Good Works and Shun False Teaching

Main Idea: Because we are transformed by grace, our lives must show it!

• We must follow good works (8)
 “Faithful is the word” (4-7, 8a)
 Those who have believed in God must devote themselves to good works (8b)
 These things are excellent and profitable for people (8c)

• We must flee false teaching and false teachers (9-11)
 Avoid false teaching (9)
 Foolish controversies
 Genealogies
 Dissensions
 Quarrels about the law
 Reason: They are useless and fruitless

 Deal with false teachers (10-11)
 Warn them once
 Warn them twice
 Have nothing more to do with them
They are warped
They are sinful
They are self-condemned

Applications

Good works: Are we known by our good works?

Good teaching: Are we careful to distinguish false teaching from true?

Grace: Do our lives reflect the grace that has been shown to us?
