Freedom Constrained by Love

158 ( 126 | 32 )

In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul continues his response to the question about whether Christians should eat food offered to idols.
His response has two prongs to it. Firstly, he warns them that, if eating the food involves them in the ritual worship of idols, then they must flee from it and have no part in it since they are participants in Christ (who died to save them from idolatry).
Secondly, even if the food is available in the open market place or in a friend's private home they need to take care that their freedom is exercised in consideration of others.

May we also see that our belonging to Christ is so comprehensive that the very idea of giving ourselves over to a false worship is out of the question and that the freedom we have in Christ is so wonderful that we can gladly submit to restraint for the benefit of others and to the glory of God.
