The Lord Knows How to Deliver the Godly

60

After explaining that false teachers have been appointed for condemnation even if the judgment doesn't come upon them immediately, Peter uses historical examples for us to have a greater understanding of God's choices. The demons were cast down, but they were reserved for later judgment. The ancient world was condemned but Noah still preached for a hundred years before it was wiped out in the flood. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed with fire and brimstone as a picture of hell so that people could understand the appointment of judgment for the ungodly. He also gives the example of Lot who tormented his soul by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds, but who God delivered from the judgment. God has false teachers in their place to separate those who are godly from those who are unjust. He will deliver the godly and reserve the unjust for judgment. He especially reserves to judgment those who walk in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. At this time in America, our country has embraced those who are self-willed and presumptious. Those who reject the authority of God such as claiming they are really a woman when they are actually a man and especially the churches that claim to know Christ and support such rebellion. We are a nation that applauds speaking evil of dignitaries, even though God's judgment is especially reserved for those who do. May we be careful to joyfully accept the order that God has given to us, recognizing that it is for our good.
