The First Commandment

If you were to ask the average person on the street if they had any idols, you can probably expect the same answer each time.
Let's take it a step further; if you were to ask any christian the same question, what kind of response could you expect? When we think of idols, we tend to picture a small wooden carving of Buddha sitting on a fireplace, or perhaps a group of people crowded around a golden statue while saying their prayers.
However, if were to specify what an idol is, we must ask a question- what would you be willing to disobey God to obtain? It may be skipping church to go to a sports game, or lie in order to get drugs or alcohol.

We find in the very first commandment a simple order: to put nothing before Him - and that may be something we need a reminder of.
