Taking our half down the middle
Series A survey of the Minor Prophets
We have here a bit of a challenge today. The prophet was preaching to a congregation that had gotten too comfortable. They were going back and forth with the winds of change. They were praying to Jehovah God one minute and praising Molech the next. It was as if they couldn't decide for themselves just what they wanted to do. So they chose to take their half down the middle. You know the saying, it is about someone driving down the road or walking on the side walk but they think there just ain't enough room for them on their side so they take both sides. We read that portion about Elijah to show that the people were looking for a reason to pick a side. Each generation needs to pick a side. Churches are closing at such high rates today not because of the lost but because too many Christians aren't willing to pick a side, too many want to be everybody's friend. In his preaching here Zephaniah shows us five reasons why we need to stop taking our half down the middle and pick a side already.
