Living a Holy Life: In Fear

Sermon Outline:

Introduction

• Live a Holy Life in Fear – terror or torment? (v. 17; 1 John 4:18; Romans 6:23; Luke 17:10; Romans 3:9-18; Ephesians 2:1-2)
• A different type of “fear” that is being referenced in 1 Peter (v. 17; Proverbs 2:1-5; 2 Corinthians 7:1; Ephesians 5:21; Revelation 14:7; 1 Peter 1:17; Philippians 2:12; see also “Fear of the Lord” Lecture Notes for more on this topic; 1 Thessalonians 1:2-10)
• Two Reasons to conduct ourselves in Fear Given in 1 Peter 1:17-21

I. First Reason – We will be Judge According to our Works (v. 17)

• Without Partiality (2 Chronicles 19:7; Romans 2:11)
• Works Tested by Fiery Trials (1 Corinthians 3:11-15; Philippians 2:13)

II. Second Reason – Redeemed by the Precious Blood of Christ – Merely by Grace (vs. 18-21)

• Not of Corruptible Things (v.18)
• With precious Blood Christ – As of a Lamb without blemish and without spot (v.19; Colossians 2:14; Hebrews Chapters 9 and 10)
• Christ was Foreordained to Redeem Those God has Set His Love on from Before the Foundation of the World (vs. 20-21a)
• So Our Faith and Hope would be in God Alone (v. 21b)

Conclusion/Application

By Faith and in all Humility with a Thankful Heart Conduct Your live in Obedience to God’s Word, with a Desire to Serve Him in Love, and Live in a Manner that is Glorifying Him through Christ Jesus Our Lord
