-former, as gospel instruction unto Christ's disciples;
-latter, as godly indictment against Christ's destroyers

-first, an illustration of the gospel sown in God's sovereignty
-last, an illustration of the gospel rejected in Man's depravity

-alpha, implies gospel reception by God's preparation
-omega, implies gospel rejection despite God's intervention

*Note: There are 3 other instructive parables connected with the 1st (Mk 4), and 1 instructive parable in Mk 13 of the Fig Tree; yet, these are secondary parables with regard to the principle focus of the gospel contained in Mark's account.
