Daniel's Excellent Spirit

As Daniel chapter 6 begins, Darius now rules, and the aged Daniel occupies a high place in the government. Daniel gained a good reputation before Darius because of his "excellent spirit," or his wisdom, honesty, diligence, integrity, and faithfulness. Daniel's reputation was a thorn in the sides of the other officials, and they sought to sabotage his reputation through treachery.
