Making Sense of the World

Sermon Point: Make sense of the world; trust Christ is putting all things under His feet.

Outline:

1. Christ, sitting on his throne, is the main character in this story; discern His purposes and not some “Moral to the Story.”
2. All David's enemies are being placed under His feet, so Christ is placing all things under His feet (2 Samuel 2:4 and 5:1-5).
3. In God's providence, so called accidents further Christ's kingdom and kingship (2 Samuel 4:4).
4. In God's providence, evil actions also further Christ's kingdom and kingship (2 Samuel 4:1-3 and 5-7).
5. In addition, the proper use of civil means furthers Christ's kingdom and kingship (2 Samuel 4:8-12).
6. Christ subdues us to Himself (Mephibosheth), rules over us and defends us (Rechab and Baanah), and restrains and conquers all of His and our enemies (Ishbosheth, 2 Samuel 4:1 and 12b).
