Not an Accidental Redeemer

In Ruth we have a picture of Jesus as our Kinsman Redeemer. But no matter how precious the story, no picture of Christ can ever equal His glory and perfection, and so today we love to discuss the ways in which Christ is better than Boaz!

Boaz was an accidental redeemer. He never offered to redeem Naomi and Ruth. He never planned to be their redeemer, though he was very kind to Ruth from the beginning. He never put himself forward as a possible kinsman redeemer, but he was willing and eager to perform the duty once Ruth requested it of him.

The Lord Jesus was no accidental redeemer! He deliberately planned to redeem His loved ones from before the foundation of the world! He was never shy to preach the Gospel of salvation by faith in Himself. Unlike Ruth, most people who hear the Gospel reject the offer of salvation.

Jesus also knew all the people whom He would redeem from the very start. He didn't wait for us to come to Him, for the Godhead planned and pursued and worked to draw us all unto the Savior. Christ seeks each of His sheep out and brings us home in safety. Ruth and Naomi might never have come to Boaz, but all the Father's loved ones will most certainly come to the Son, and He will deliver every single one without fail!

Boaz was rich, and had the resources to redeem Ruth and Naomi, but he didn't consciously acquire wealth for that purpose.

But Christ voluntarily submitted Himself to the awful price of redemption when He deliberately went to the cross and laid down His life to save us, thereby acquiring the price of redemption for every one of us.

It was no accident what Christ did; the Lord Jesus is our deliberate redeemer, far nobler than Boaz!
