The package was sealed with wax; it was small; and it was inside the walls of the castle at Doornik. The watchmen had found it when the dawn revealed its place. It must have been thrown over the wall in the night. Inside it contained a written letter and a small booklet printed in French .
It was a confession of faith. of some protestant reformers. Nobly and fearlessly defending their faith and pleading with the government to hear their side. It was presented to Philip the II and all those who governed the Netherlands. It had been thrown over the wall sometime in the night of Nov. 1, 1561. Unfortunately it had the effect of Making Philip more resolved to rid himself of what he thought was heresy.
The document was the Belgic confession of faith and the principle author was Guido de Bres.
