Mary Anoints the Lord
Series The Gospel of John
411
After the resurrection of Lazarus, a dinner is held in the town of Bethany, with Jesus and some of His disciples present. Here we see the sister of Lazarus, Mary, anoint our Lord with perfume that is worth a year's wages. This anointing is beautiful, sacrificial and prophetic. Mary is anointing our Lord for His burial.
However, Judas Iscariot, criticizes her and influences others to do the same. Judas claims that the perfume ought to have been sold and the money given to the poor. This, however, was just a religious cover for his depraved, thieving heart.
We see the stark contrast between the depravity of Judas and the devotion of Mary.
