Cain, the firstborn of Adam, has become a murderer, a liar, and an apostate. He has turned away from God and from his parent's upbringing. He has the blood of his own brother on his hands. And so, he flees from God and his family, he goes eastwards and settles with his wife in a place of relative safety, and starts a family, and a city:
