Song of Abounding Grace

99

MIDWEEK DEVOTIONAL FOR PRAYER MEETING

v1, Mankind’s utter need of Christ. Psa 10:4, In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”

אין אלהים (ayn elohiym) “There is no God”

“It is worthy of observation that he does not say there is no Jehovah, but there is no Elohim; Deity in the abstract is not so much the object of attack, as the covenant, personal, ruling and governing presence of God in the world. God as ruler, lawgiver, worker, Saviour, is the butt at which the arrows of human wrath are shot.” — C. H. Spurgeon

Rom 1:19-20, For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

vv2-3, quoted by Paul in Rom 3:11-12

This is how deeply and desperately we need a Savior.

vv4-6, Jesus had such a close intimate relationship with the heavenly, He must be taught how depraved sinful men can be. We must be reminded likewise once we are saved.

v7, The only hope of salvation is found in Jesus of Nazareth, who came out of Zion, via a Roman cross and a borrowed tomb.
