Overcoming Anger

111

It seems like outbursts of anger appear more and more frequently in our society.  A person ordering a large coke can become a Pay-Per-View event if the ice is not just right.  When ordering a coke, an outburst of anger is inappropriate.
And yet, anger is not always inappropriate.  At times, the emotion raised and exerted in anger can help us tackle a problem that we would not normally be able to conquer.  This is the way Jesus used His anger when driving people out of the Temple complex who had no respect for His Father’s house.  God encourages us then to be angry and yet do not sin.
Sad to say, anger is used most frequently in an improper way.  People lose control and destroy and hurt rather than to cooperate and solve.  James highlights the fact in the text we will examine this Sunday.  A person who is controlled by their anger will not be living the righteous life that God intends His children to live.
In the text, God also highlights the life we should live and begins to develop the way to successfully live that life.
