The Awful Judgment of False Teachers

234

The God of the Bible is presented as pure and righteous in all His ways. The complete holiness of His person puts the sinfulness of man in perspective. His love, mercy, and grace are most fully appreciated when that proper perspective is maintained.

False teachers reject the truth of who God is, the forgiveness He offers, and who they are as sinners, as they corrupt His Word. In doing so they are storing up wrath for themselves all the while they are externally conforming to a form of godliness. Eventually their words and deeds will reveal they have never genuinely believed what God has said. They invest time and energy in deceiving and enticing people to follow them as they reject the living God and the salvation He offers.

In this section further confirmation is given of the corrupt condition of these false teachers. The rather startling, yet pertinent statement is made that it is better to have never heard the truth than to have heard it and not heeded what it said. By their knowledge of the Word of God they have externally cleaned up their lives so they appear godly, hence, escaped enough of the defilements of the world to look the part. Their teaching incorporates enough of the Word of God to make their teaching dangerously deceptive. With the passing of time the corruption of their doctrine and character will become evident as their spiritual state worsens and the façade of their godliness breaks down.
