When Wisdom Dismantles The Folly of the Wise

Kind David understood that he needed, from time to time, to be slapped in the face with truth and grace. And for that to happen he needed God to ensure the right people were paying attention to his life and ways. Abigail was one of those who, like wisdom, stood in the gap, and turned the man of God around.

The king requested, to his King, "Give Your faithful servants the courage and confidence to strike me... as I need it" (Psalm 141:5).

Why such a request? The reward is great and glorious. He understood how easy it is to be blinded by our own ways. And the average person that we surround ourselves with will only tell us what we want to hear. Every wants to "feel good" about their life... even at the cost of living life good. See, the wages of sin is death... all day, everyday!

We need people, like Abigail, the voice of wisdom, to tell us what is needed, and not just what you want, so you can deal with those ways that get you out of line with Jesus. Therefore, when our longing and desire to be right with the Lord, supersedes our fear and shame of being corrected by God's people, we, too, will humbly ask our King to give His servants courage and use them to deal with our misuse and misunderstanding of His ways. Even if it's harsh or when we feel we're the only one in the world, being disciplined for our rebellion.

I love how David said it, "Let the righteous strike me; I'll receive it as a gift of Your lovingkindness. And let him rebuke me; I'll embrace it as a fresh anointing of Your oil that You poured over me for Your service. Keep me humble and don't let me reject it."

We need God's wisdom and the wonder of His grace
