Triumphs of the Faithful

Main Idea: Our forebears in the faith model saving faith for us!

• Through their triumphs (32-35a)
• Through their sufferings (35a-38)
• Through their future perfection with us (39-40)

 Conquered kingdoms
 Enforced justice
 Obtained promises
 Stopped the mouths of lions
 Quenched the power of fire
 Escaped the edge of the sword
 Were made strong out of weakness
 Became mighty in war
 Put foreign armies to flight
 Women received their dead by resurrection

Applications

Move forward in new “faith ventures”—trust God for achieving success!

Don’t simply rely upon “numbers” for decisions (the Gideon 1% odds!)

Live for the long term—character over competence (David vs. Saul).

Keep the Triune God as the object of your faith—this is not “faith in faith”!

Believe the Gospel!
