The Wise and the Fool - Proverbs 1:1-7

Having completed the Bumper Sticker Theology sermon series, we'll now begin an series through the book of Proverbs. The sermon text for this coming Lord's Day will be Proverbs 1:1-7. Here are some questions to assist you in preparing for the sermon.

1. Who's the author of this book? What's the reputation of this author?

2. Verses 4-5 lists four different types of people the author is writing to. Who are they? Using your own words, provide a definition and/or description of each of these four types of people.

3. While there are similarities and overlap, the author identifies sixteen different purposes for writing the book of Proverbs. List all sixteen. Limit your answer only to the contents of verses 1-7.

4. There is a fifth type of person listed in verse 7. Define and/or describe this fifth type of person.

5. What does it mean to fear the Lord? (v. 7) In what way(s) is this the beginning of wisdom?
