Paul's First "What"

In verses 18 and 19, Paul used an indefinite pronoun to frame his statements. Each time they are translated "what". In the first, he prayed "that ye may know what is the hope of his calling". Hope means confident assurance. The calling is the effectual call which brings the chosen sinner out of darkness and in his marvelous light. It's illustrated by the shepherd who put the sheep on his shoulders to bring him home.
