Misplaced Priorities
Series Haggai Series
After the remnant of the Jewish population returned to the land after the exile they began rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem, but progress was stopped because of opposition by neighboring enemies. So the people had turned their energies to building their own "paneled houses" and the prophet Haggai confronts them with the fact that they were neglecting the rebuilding of the Lord's house, i.e., the temple. Through the prophet's inspired words we see that Yahweh knew exactly what his people's sins were, he commanded them to take corrective action, and then he grants them the ability to obey him. Refreshingly, they all, the king and high priest, and all the people, obeyed and went to work in the rebuilding project. They got their misplaced priorities placed correctly on the upbuilding of the kingdom of God, instead of their own little kingdoms and interests.
